...The proposal was first publicly introduced and framed in economic terms by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the newly formed centrist coalition government (SVM: Socialdemokratiet, Venstre, and Moderaterne) in December 2022, shortly after they took office. It was part of their regeringsgrundlag (government foundation agreement) to finance accelerated defense spending to meet NATO's 2% of GDP target earlier (by 2030 instead of 2033), amid the Ukraine war context. The government estimated the change would add roughly 3 billion DKK annually to state coffers via extra workdays and higher tax income, while increasing structural employment by about 8,500 full-time equivalents and supporting overall economic output (BNP)...
